Antifascist activists were arrested on 15 April 2019 following a confrontation with the fascists from Génération Identitaire, Zouaves Paris and Milice Paris on the sidelines of the Gilets jaunes movement. Defeated, the fascists filed a complaint, which led to the indictment of antifascist activists and the incarceration of one of them, Antonin Bernanos. This despite his denial of the facts and the case resting solely on the testimony of the Génération Identitaire activist and far‑right hooligan Antoine Oziol de Pignol.
The only one incarcerated because of his activist profile in what remains a simple fight, Antonin has been relentlessly targeted by the judicial system: visits allowed only to his family after two months of waiting, systematic withholding of mail, placement in solitary confinement at Fresnes, a surprise transfer to la Santé while arrangements had just been made so that he could continue his studies, and the threat of being moved outside Île‑de‑France to cut him off from his close ones.
Last November, Antonin’s release was granted due to the glaring vacuity of the file. He was released on bail, albeit under restrictive conditions, symptomatic of the absurd nature of this case.
The relentless harassment Antonin has endured for more than a year is one of the many manifestations of the state’s authoritarian turn, against which it is imperative that we fight with all our strength.
We are therefore opening this collective fund to materially support our comrades.
